5th Pakistan Mega Leather Show underway
Products on display include tanned leather, footwear, garments, gloves, bags and shoes. The show is jointly organised by Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA), Pakistan Footwear Manufacturers Association, Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association and Pakistan Gloves Manufacturers & Exporters Association, under the auspices of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan.
With about 300 stands, international exhibitors include, Brazil and China. “The show has attracted potential buyers and investors from China, India, Italy, Germany, Hong Kong, U.S., Cyprus, UAE, Spain and Japan,” said Agha Saddain, Chairman, PTA. Business-to-business meetings are being held daily during the event.
Abdul Razak Dawood, Adviser to Pakistan’s Prime Minister on Commerce, Textile, Industry and Production, and Investment, formally inaugurated the 5th edition of the show. In his speech, Dawood said that “despite difficulties, the country's economy is heading towards improvement” and the country's exports are to reach an all-time high this year. "We are working on a strategy to increase exports. The business community and the government can work together to overcome challenges”, he said adding that the recently announced reform package is aimed at boosting the supply-side of the economy and enhance production and exports. Under the reform, changes to visa requirements would help attract foreign investors.
