A major fire broke out at footwear factory in VKI's Road Number-19 area on Sunday. Nearly 15 fire tenders were pressed into service, but it could not be doused till late night. The fire department officials said that the fire became uncontrollable because of some chemical drums in the factory.
No loss of life was reported as the fire broke out when it was lunchtime.
Chief fire officer (CFO) Dinesh Sharma said that fire took place at Poddar Polymers, a footwear manufacturing company that owns three factories on VKI Road number-9. The fire started at around 1.30 pm at the first floor of one of the factories. "Some 15 fire tenders have completed 45 rounds to douse fire, but we are yet to get success completely. We poured water from nearby factories also," said the officer. He added that the cause of fire is being investigated.
