Footwear expo in Agra next month
According to the organizer, the Agra Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Chamber (AFMEC), the event is not just for product exhibition but is also a platform to strengthen supply chain, build new business relations, capacity building and technology exchange. The expo will also help enrich the knowledge base of entrepreneurs and a learning opportunity for students training at footwear institutes.
AFMEC president Puran Dawar said: "The footwear industry has a 42.83% share in the overall exports from India. Agra is the country's footwear manufacturing hub and manufactures about 28% of the total shoes exports."
Dawar added that the business generation during the first exhibition in 2007 was Rs 1.5 billion, which increased to Rs 15 billion in 2013. It is expected that this threshold will breached this year."
A fashion show to exhibit the latest in footwear will also be staged.
Last year, the overseas pavilion was introduced at 'Meet at Agra'. The AFMEC president said there has been an overwhelming response for participating countries in the fair despite the drop in exports due to a recession in Europe. About 95% of the space at the exposition has already been booked, he added.
The organizers said they expect a footfall of about 8,000 businesspersons.
