An unidentified thief, who just wanted to steal shoes and sandals from a house, barged into a house after seeing a window opened and managed to make away with gold biscuits and cash total worth Rs 8 Lakh.

The incident took place at Puja Villa in Sitabaug Colony on Sinhgad Road in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. Cops said that the CCTV footage of the area has been recovered, which shows a person sneaking into the compound in order to steal the shoes and sandals kept in the cabinet outside the main door. However he saw a window of the bungalow open and left the footwear and barged into house and made away with cash and valuables from the cupboard.

A complaint has been registered by Vijay Dedge with the Dattawadi police.

“Dedge and his family have a bungalow in Sitabaug Colony and on Sunday after having dinner, they all had gone upstairs to sleep. During midnight, one unidentified man sneaked into their compound. His activities were captured by the CCTV camera installed at their bungalow,” police inspector Satish Govekar said.

He said that in the CCTV grab, the thief has been seen leaving the footwear to get inside the house through the window. “He is seen going away with things in hand. He did not even look at the footwear while escaping from the compound,” he said.

In the morning, when Dedge and his family woke up and realised that the cash and gold biscuits were missing from the cupboard, they approached the police station.

“We have recovered the CCTV footage and investigation is on,” he said.
