Vietnam: Leather and footwear exports reaching $6.5 bn

Vietnam’s export turnover for leather and footwear exceeded $6.5 billion in 2011, making the country as one of the top five countries and territories that has the highest export turnover of leather and footwear worldwide.

The country’s export turnover of handbags exceeded $1 billion for the second consecutive year, contributing to increasing the country’s export turnover of leather, footwear and handbags.With an export turnover of $1.3 billion in 2011, handbags and leatherwallets saw a year-on-year increase of up to 33.5 percent.
Totally for the whole year 2011, Vietnam’s export turnover for footwear, leather, handbags and leather wallets reached over $7.8 billion, leading to a trade surplus of this sector at 45-50 percent.
