Claus Heckerott new MD Adidas India
Heckerott, held the position of VP Finance Global Sales before taking on the new role. He will report into Roland Auschel, Adidas Group’s Chief Sales Officer Multichannel Markets. Serrant, a French national, joined the Indian team in January coming from France where he had held the position of Sales Director since 2007. Serrant will report into Claus Heckerott. The adidas Group is the clear market leader in India with its core brands adidas, Reebok and TaylorMade – adidas Golf.
Adidas and Reebok merged only last year in India even though a $3.8 billion global buyout of the latter happened in 2005. Reebok India had a turnover of about Rs 600 crores, while Adidas clocked in revenues of Rs 480 crores in 2011. The company on a combined level had debts to the tune of Rs 600 crores and had registered a loss of about Rs 90 crores. In 2010, Adidas Group had laid down a strategic business plan "Route 2015" with the objective of driving profitable growth across the group. As a part of the plan, India was identified as one of the key markets across the globe.
The Indian organized sportswear market is pegged at about Rs 4,000 crores with the combined entity of Adidas and Reebok taking the top spot with about 70 per cent share followed by German rival Puma and the world's largest sports goods brand Nike.
